As I sit in my room this pre-Easter Saturday evening I have not been able to stop thinking about my Family. You see I quite dislike all holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving (even though it’s not an English holiday), Memorial Day and so on and so forth ……. because it just reminds me how far away I am from my Family and Friends.

To me Easter has always been a time of the year when my Family gets together and celebrates. When I was younger we would all go to my Grandmother’s house, my Aunts would give us Easter Eggs and then amongst ourselves, the kids would trade with the vigour of a Stock Broker in the midst of a recession. Finally, when all were content with our Cadbury’s Caramel or Bailey’s Easter Egg, we would enjoy each other’s company…….. and I just recall feeling so happy at those times that I can only put it down to feeling loved and part of a true Family.

As I have grown up I have realized that what I had as a child…….. the Christmas parties, huge birthday bashes with 1000’s of cousins coming together and ma-hu-sive dinners…….where everyone gets 3/4 plates to take home, are not the standard for everyone. Being over in NYC with no family to have my Sunday dinner with or to wake me up on my birthday to give me my gifts (no matter how small) has made me greatly appreciate and long for the comfort of my home. As I say this I realize the true differentiation between living in a house and having a HOME.

Anyhu my point is that to me Easter is really about spending time with your Family. I just want people who have a Family to recognize that God gives the GIFT OF LIFE, and God can take away that Gift at any time. Easter is about the rising of Jesus Christ, which is important to Christians on its own, ……. but there is a deeper lesson that I feel everyone can yield from this holiday that is unrelated to any religion….

The lesson is that people are here but for a moment, people live only for a time and when they are gone we WILL miss them dearly. When you loose someone you love your soul trembles,…… something deep inside of you aches and you come to realise what exactly that person meant for you. Death is an awful thing but it is also something that can be very powerful in changing you; ……. forcing you to seize each day and appreciate the people you still have in your life….

If you have never really been affected by death I would like you to try and think how you would feel if you lost your mother or father or sister or brother, then THINK about the last time you called them, or hugged them or told them you loved them….. and understand that your EXCUSES are NOT REASONS………. If you haven’t taken out the time in your busy schedule to enjoy your family and celebrate the gift of life then this Easter make a change and do just that.

Don’t party with “FRIENDS” who will probably only be there as long as there’s something in it for them, don’t stay in all day with a BOYFRIEND who will probably NOT be there 5 years from now….. GO HOME and spend your time with your Family and THANK GOD you have one……Because a lot of people don’t.

Right now I know I have a Family that loves me. My Mother is the ONLY thing that keeps me sane and my sisters are the only ones that when I speak to them and hear them laugh and fool around it brings a tear to my eye and takes away my breath because I am not there with them…….my Father is the only one who can make me laugh and motivate me to just stay on the grind and keep hustling to get to where I need to be. But the fact that I can not see them or hug them or just sit in the same room as them or even go to sleep knowing they are right around the corner makes me sometimes wonder if being out here and pursing my “dreams” is all really worth it.

Anyways, Easter is about celebrating life and though it is hard for some of us who are WITHOUT our family I just want Mi Amours to read this and learn to appreciate what God given gifts you have in your life. I know Families bicker and argue but try and put all negative things to one side and just love one another because, like I said, …… Tomorrow is promised to no one.

It’s a little sombre as I am alone this Easter (well without my family) but I wish everyone a Happy Easter from the bottom of my heart.

So on Tuesday evening, March 23, Steve Madden, the world renowned shoe designer teamed up with up and coming R ‘n’ B singer IYAZ. The event, which was held at one of their stores in Manhattan presented a short showcase, with IYAZ singing his new song “Solo” as well as his No. 1 hit in both the US Billboard Chart (in December 2009)  and the UK Singles Chart (in January 2010), “Replay.”

You know I had to show some love because he is doing his thing and remembering my home folk over in the UK!

IYAZ’s performance was extremely energetic and his singing skills were definitely well honed!  I must say I did enjoy the performance from the Virgin Island native, who orignally grew up in Tortola (which is a very beautiful country btw).

Also making at appearance at the event was the extremely talented young Fashion Designer, Dreemz, who in my opinion was definitely the most stylish VIP Guest at the event, check out the pics below and you can check out all of his designs and more at www.dreemzdenim.com ….

‘Ello ‘Ello ‘Ello Mi Amours! So I was having a rather interesting conversation with a friend the other day about sex… and after about an hour or so, I mentioned, very casually….. and as a passing comment, that in the past I have definitely faked it!

Well he was certainly shocked and appeared to be slightly offended, not because we have had any sexual relations and I dented his ego…….but almost because he was offended at the idea that a female would actually just FAKE it!Know that she faked it, and feel no way to admit that she fakes it, when there was a  need to…. ”make it, make it vibrate!” (#truestories)

Let me explain one of my theories on sex…. I am fully aware that every guy thinks that he is THE best thing since sliced bread, when it comes to PUTTING IT DOWN in the bedroom….However I have personally experienced and heard MANY girlfriends tell me just how much the sex SUCKED and how they couldn’t think of any better way to escape, what one of them described as a “washing machine moving,” ain’t-doing-anything-for-me, please-hurry-up-and-let-this-be-over, sexual experience! (Lol)

Now I have to say that often men and ladies speak about how FANTASTIC sex is, and HONESTLY I think a great deal of the time they are EXAGGERATING, so that you will envy their non-existent sex life….. The truth of the matter is that especially for a WOMAN, sex can often suck….

If you ask me the question Have I ever Faked it? …..I shall respond, probably quite loudly, “Hell yea, I’ve faked it!” And I Know that probably 98% of woman HAVE at some point had to fake it. Let me break down the rationale for the fellas, so they can get a little insight into a REAL woman’s mind, and speak the truth so my ladies KNOW it’s OK to tell it JUST how it is!  

Some of the reasons ladies fake it area as follows:

1. She is Bored! – He is putting in work, or what he claims is “work” and unfortunately the only thing your body feels ……is the perspiration being transferred from his skin to yours…. which, I might add, is perfectly fine IF I’M ENJOYING SEX, but if I am bored as hell trying to figure out what channel I’m going to watch when this is over,….. perspiration transfer is just plain NASTY! ….. so HELL YEA IMMA FAKE IT! …Why? ….. To hurry up and get the heck outta there!

2. She is trying to make YOU feel good– Often women care about the person they are having a sexual relationship with, sometimes they don’t and they are using you just as much as you may be using them, but occasionally (lol) they give damn about your feelings. Thus if they see you are making an effort and TRYING to please them. She will FAKE IT , so that you can feel good about yourself, and talk that “I put it down on my baby” ish to your friends, with the most genuine belief that you do! (Its emotional! ^_^)

3. She needs to go!– Now this one is sooo OFF the top of my head but I think it is probably true in some cases…. A girl will probably fake it because SHE NEEDS TO LEAVE! You know those ones where the first hour leading up to sex, should have been more like 20 minutes…. and your train leaves at 11.47pm and the next one is not till 1.28am? …. well in this case I COMMEND a bish that can do  A GOOD FAKE ORGY and head out, with time to get a Rubicon from the store before she gets to the station! (Don’t laugh…. Ladies I KNOW some of you MUST have done that? Lol)

4. She is tired– Ladies are JUST LIKE GUYS, when it comes to sex… Sometimes we are too tired too….which means if as my boyfriend, you INSIST on having sex, because YOUR in the mood, I AM going to FAKE it, especially if your one of those caring boyfriends that wants to make sure I get mine….. “Why?” you say….. “How UNGRATEFUL can a girlfriend be?” you gasp….. Well let me explain something….. If I’m TIRED, I’m TIRED…. I want ma freakin’ pillow and some cuddles, I do NOT want to have to wear out my thighs and have a mini gymnastic stretching session before bed…. Thus I WILL DEFINITELY (and this comes from a caring place in my heart) I will DEFINITELY FAKE IT…. cos I want you hurry up and leave me alone so I can K.O….. I got work tomorrow b! *kisses boo on forehead, pulls pillow from under his head and gets her snore on! *

5. She Loves You!– Ok, so sometimes when a girl is in LOVE she fakes it, not JUST to make a guy feel better, but almost because she is in LOVE sooo DEEP that she FAKES it as much for herself as she does the guy. It’s kind of like, she wants to have an orgasm but knows its probably not going to happen so she FAKES it because it makes a nice crescendo ending for the evening…. and she LOVES yaw ass!

6. She actually thinks she had an orgasm– Now everybody knows that when you are young you have NO FREAKIN IDEA what your rass is doing in the bedroom, you fumble and prod and eventually you get your act together…. but you don’t KNOW how to do ANYTHING without some experience.… Ladies know that at first you THINK that you have an orgasm, because it felt good…. BUT often, maybe even a few years down the line, when you speak to one of your girlfriends or you actually HAVE an orgasm… you realise you did all that damn shaking for NO REASON, because THAT.…. as good as it felt at the time, was actually NO WHERE NEAR the heightened experience you just heard about, or just experienced!

Anyhu….I think it’s actually obvious just how much Sex Talk you can get out of Ms. Amour….. but I would LOVE some feedback… I could probably think of at least 5 more reasons, but this blogging biz don’t pay my bills and I’m bout to be late for work so I’mma ask my ladies, AND fellas to COMMENT and let me know a reason you fake it…. and If its good I’mma add it to my list….

The meaning of the phrase is basically this…. When searching for a relationship, in fact….. when searching for anything in life, people sometimes have a tendency to be WAAAAAY too fussy. We want everything to be perfect, everything to match our vision…….. down to the tiniest detail….. This, Mi Amours, causes us to become PICKY!!

The obviously rationale behind our endeavor for perfection is that we feel that we deserve the VERY BEST! Now do NOT get me wrong, the point of this blog is not to say that we should accept anything that comes our way ….. The point is to make it clear that sometimes in our frantic desperation to find THAT PERFECT man or that PERFECT job ……. we can do ONE of TWO things…..

1)       Find EVERYTHING we want….. Whilst simultaneously managing to FIND NOTHING we NEED….

or

2)      Become so exhausted and disappointed in NEVER finding MR. Right (or even say….our dream job) …that we ABANDON our fruitless search and TAKE the FIRST OPTION that becomes available and…… is, well….. PRESENTABLE, to say the least. *shrug*

This Mi Amours……. is the definition of the Jamaican saying “Pick, Pick, Pick….. ‘Till You Pick Rubbish.”  In all of your desperation to seek and find perfection…… you have, in fact, managed to PICK up TRASH! (It’s more than emotional! O_o) 

My personal experience went a little something like this…. Had a boyfriend, ABSOLUTELY LOUSY in every way, shape and form you could imagine, (bearing in mind I was 18 and he was my 2^nd ever boyfriend, I forgive myself…. But I still learnt my lesson!) Anyhu he was WHATLESS, JOBLESS and couldn’t even look after himself let alone, me or his one year old son! That “relationship” *side eye*  took up 7 months of my life and exposed me to more disappointment that I vowed I would ever endure again! ……(You see, my aim is to SAVE you from the same fate!)

My solution was simple! BE MORE SPECIFIC…. Be more picky! …. So I spent a whole year analyzing guys with my 24 point checklist…… each time finding that HE, no matter who HE was, fell SHORT of WHAT I DESERVED…. To cut a long story short… One year later I gave up the fight and settled down with a gentleman who ADHERED to NONE of my standards, just because we had some chemistry… and quite frankly I believe I was tired of being alone.…. *small violin plays in the background *

The result…. HEARTBREAK! Utter disappointment…….. because he could NOT provide for me the way I wanted him to, He didn’t understand my needs and he failed to take the relationship to the level I wanted it to go to! …. THE BIGGEST BUMMER ….. was that if I had not been so EXHAUSTED in looking for Mr. Right that I settled for Mr. Right-Now … I would HAVE SEEN that the whole thing was NEVER going to work out, in the first place!!

My point..…. When we are In a Relationship OR When we are Looking for a Relationship…. We need to try and avoid these POLAR opposites …. I think we need to learn to BALANCE being Specific with being REALISTIC, whilst ensuring our WANTS do not OVERSHADOW our NEEDS…………..

For example, I NEED someone who can make me laugh, I WANT a Wall street Stock broker, but the chance of me finding one who meets all my other criteria AND makes me roll up in tears laughing, MAY BE SLIM TO NONE! Thus…..I’m s-l-o-w-l-y coming to terms with altering that particular criteria! L

On the other hand, I will NEVER AGAIN give a man TOO MANY brownie points just because he can crack a JOKE…. If he can’t do SHIT else, the JOKES end up being NOT SO FUNNY in the long run! YA DIGG?!

Anyhu…. this post has now become rather long so I shall end with this point…. Too often people “Pick, Pick Pick…’Till they pick rubbish” and whilst women, especially Black women are often the first to SCREAM “Why should WE settle”….. we also have to realize that there is a difference between SETTLING and being REALISTIC…. After all, JUST HOW PERFECT are you?

Now when I talk about the “Title” I am referring to that status we get from being officially crowned the “Girlfriend,” Boyfriend,” “Wifey” or even “Fcuk Buddy” or “Side Chick.” Now I’m not too sure why someone would officially want to be known as the “side chick” but I have heard a few girls refer to themselves as such, and they appeared to be happy with their title so I’m not going to knock it.

You see my question is: Does putting a “Title” on a relationship tend to improve a relationship and satisfy the parties involved, or does it tend to be damaging?

I believe that in some circumstances a “Title” can improve the quality of a relationship. It gives both parties a clear sense of their role, for example if I’m your “Girlfriend” there is somewhat an obligation to be there for you through emotional hardship, financial instability and to cater to your physical needs. Being the “Boyfriend” implies that you will protect, look after and spoil your girl like the princess she is….. Am I bugging or does that sound about right?

The point is that having a “Title” tends to draw the boundaries of the relationship more clearly. If you asked me to be your “Wifey” and I fluttered my eyelashes, got butterflies and said “Yes” with the upmost satisfaction, one can assume that NEITHER party is entitled to “see other people.” The relationship has become EXCLUSIVE! This being fine and dandy there is obviously a downside to putting a “Title” on it….

The downside mi amours is that if your do slip up and kiss another guy/girl or start talking to other guys/girls you are almost in BREACH of a contract! Ok maybe that’s a bit dramatic… (that’s my law side coming out ) but I feel like if you say I am your girl and then you go fool around with a next girl, you kind of broke the inherent promise that you would not do such a thing, until the relationship became officially over…. Am I right or am I speaking a different language at this point?

Simply put, a “Title” creates responsibilities and obligations on the parties to the relationship, which can result in either one person, or both people, feeling pressure to conform to the social standards imposed by their “Title.” The problem being that sometimes it can all get a little too much, a little too quickly.

You feel like you are suddenly in a serious relationship and your ability to have fun and just enjoy your life has been taken away … You go to a party and feel the need to tell every guy/girl that tries to dance with you that you are “in a relationship” and you begin to wonder whether it’s all really worth it. Even worse, you end up arguing with the person you are in a relationship with because you feel they are not meeting your STANDARD, when it comes to being a good “Boyfriend” or “Girlfriend.”

Now I am not ashamed to say that I personally made it my duty to moan at my exes when they didn’t take me out enough, or didn’t call often enough, or didn’t make enough time for me, purely because I was under the impression that these were things he SHOULD do…. because he was SUPPOSED to be my Boyfriend! Sound familiar to anyone? …. You know you’ve done it!

Anyhu, I just find that so many girls and guys often want that “Title” and when they get it, it can cause what would have been a perfectly long lasting relationship, to deteriorate rapidly ….. resulting in a swift BREAK UP!

Mi amours, I would like to know whether you think having a “Title” is important to having a meaningful relationship? or whether it is better to just take it day by day, without officially being the “Girlfriend,” “Boyfriend” or “Wifey” etc?

 Trina, Kim OR Nicki baybee?

So unfortunately my life got CRAZY again and I was unable cover all the news and events that I wanted to. However after recently telling my boss at my God awful RETAIL job to to Go FCUK herself…..We now return to regular programming!

Nicki Minaj who I interviewed last summer (2009), has finally BLOWN up! She has featured on an enormous amount of tracks in such a short time, as well as appearing on BET’s 106 & Park  TWICE, to date. I have to say I’m very proud of my gurl, she deserves the spotlight!

Ms. Minaj’s status has undoubtedly reached new heights as she  just got her FIRST COVER on the Spring Edition for FADER MAGAZINE,  the launch party for such took place Wednesday evening in downtown Manhattan. The caption for her cover appropriately reads “Nick Minaj Assumes Control”and the article is definitely worth a butchers (U.S. translation = worth taking a look at).

Although the Harajuku Barbie was not in attendance, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Raheem DeVaughn did make an appearance. Mr. DeVaughn released his 3rd album to date, The Love & War MasterPeace (Deluxe) on Monday March 1st. The album is available from the Official Store, and you can also get your hands on a copy via iTunes and Amazon.com.

Now as we all know I was IN LOVE with Nicki Minaj… and as I previously mentioned I very happy for her with regards to her success. Now for some unknown reason, I DO NOT have a TV nor a RADIO, but found myself in a friends home a day or two ago watching the “BedRock” Video and well…. IS Nicki Minaj OVER-DOING this WHOLE Barbie thing?

You see my problem is that I feel like her label/her PR people or whoever is in charge of the direction of her image, FEEL like it is ESSENTIAL to market Ms. Minaj USING this GIMMICK rather than having faith that she can do well without her ECCENTRIC BARBIE mannerisms. Now I recognize the value of marketing strategies, and THUS FAR this “It’s Barbie Bitch” phenomena has propelled her to unrivaled success as the TOP female RAPEER in the game right now…..

But Is it just me or do Gimmicks used by celebrities get OLD FAST? My main point being that once people get bored with this Barbie thing, will that effect Ms. Minaj’s appeal?…. As you may know I had the pleasure of interviewing the Harajuku Barbie herself the summer of last year…. and she is, in FACT, an extremely intelligent young woman…. SHE is NOT AN AIR-HEADED Barbie….

So, I wonder, DOES HER IMAGE also send out the wrong message to young girls? Perhaps that air-headedness (if there is such a term) will get you further than intelligence?…Or is it all good becuase SHE’S BAD, she’s doing her thing, and the MAJORITY of people KNOW that she’s more than just a Barbie? 

Honestly I think she does it for the show of it, to get the attention she needs and when she is more established and RESPECTED for her MUSICAL talent, she will take her image in a new direction? THOUGHTS PLEASE Amours……I REALLY want to know what you guys think on this one!!
