nia-longFinally someone has spoken out about this HORRIBLE trend that is vasting limiting the number of Black actors and actresses that we are exposed to…..limiting them to SINGERS and RAPPERS, that is!

Nia Long decided to speak up and say exactly what I’ve been thinking since this ridiculous phase had begun…check out what Nia had to say about singer’s like Beyoncé getting LEAD roles in movies:

I didn’t see [Beyonce's latest movie] ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment, but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate?’

When you see certain people – we won’t name names – they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes’…“If you take time to develop your craft, God bless you.

Jamie Foxx is an example of both [actor and singer].”

Personally I’m sick of seeing the SAME DAMN FACES all the time! I love Beyoncé and I think she’s one of the best performers of her generation ….BUT that does NOT mean that I want to see her in every other Black movie that comes out!

Like Nia, I didn’t go to see ‘Obsessed’…. and I’m not going to go see it any time soon…….because I just don’t like the idea of watching a singer act!

Ludacris is one of the few rappers that I would actually rate (give props to) for his acting skills…..he was good in ‘Crash‘….but these music artists need to understand that just because you feel like diversifying….DOES NOT MEAN you have ANY SKILLS in that area!

I hear Rihanna is going to be in the next “Charlie’s Angels” and Beyoncé is going to be starring in “Obsessed 2″…… for the sake of the ART of ACTING….STOP!! All of you….for the sake of all the Black kids out there that have been to theatre school and would love the shot at a role in a movie….MOVE THE HELL OVER and give someone else an opportunity to showcase their talent!

As much as I LOVE the fact that all these Black entertainment artists are able to help their own…you know give their kid’s a role in a major film (Will Smith) or put their little cousin on a track with the latest artist (like White people have been doing for years)….I think that for the good of everyone there must be a point where you they STOP being GREEDY and give OTHER hard working people a chance! /end rant

Amours….is it just me….or is this starting to get on anyone else’s nerves??

  1. Hey Cherie Amour!

I found your blog through one of my blog family members.

I’m Beyonce’s BIGGEST fan, but I have to agree with Nia Long. It shouldn’t be about who can sell out the box office. It should be about who can do the job the best!

Come check out my blog – Me & My Ego- and Join me!

  2. Beyonce, in Obsessed, is appalling. RUBBISH acting. I went to the cinema with a friend who said ’she’s not sexy anymore’ less than halfway through the film. Don’t bother watching it. Although, Ali Larter is SICK in it.

O well I understand why she’s doing it! … She wants an oscar … who knows maybe she’ll get better … at least she has some concrete determination doe!

    Hey Jenelly,

I’m glad you said that…. I know what u mean doe B is good when it comes to performing but I think she should leave the acting to the trained professionals…. it’s not like she needs the money!
